Blurb/Summary:

Evil forces are at play surrounding Angelique Beauvisage, but she has no clue. Sensuous and suspense-filled, ANGEL OF WINDWORD, begins with a murder that takes place four years before and turns into a perilous cat and mouse game played by two reluctant lovers, who spin a web of deception that only their love can unravel.

Forced into a loveless marriage with the deliciously handsome viscount, Nicholas Kent, by her stepmother, Victoria Montclair, Angelique pretends to go along with the charade, while making plans of her own to elope with her childhood sweetheart, Henri. As fate would have it, all plans are off when Angelique and Nicholas fall in love and marry. But the idyllic romance takes a turn as she becomes the pawn of a murderous scheme. Having traded the blissful existence of her beloved Loire Valley, Angelique finds that Windword Hall has more than one villainous skeleton in the closet.

Review:

Maggie Dove draws the reader in from the very first sentence. As a historical romance, this book enables the reader to easily imagine themselves in Victorian France and England with descriptive prose and fluid dialect. Angelique is cleverly written, spirited and charming with a hint of mischief that makes her the perfect match for Nicholas Kent. Nicholas is an alluring hero with strength, intelligence, and wit. The triangle between Angelique, Nicholas, and Angelique's childhood love interest, Henri is captivating and enthralling, making this book a page turner as the relationships unfold and blossom.

The plot, on the surface, appears to be conventional with the evil step-mother and jilted ex-lover, but as the reader progresses through the storyline, this book is anything but predictable. As the villains emerge and their intentions unfold, you find yourself engulfed in a sordid and murderous world rooting for Angelique and Nicholas' triumph over the evil powers at play.

Every chapter in this book will leave the reader hungry for the next. The cover was beautiful; the writing, masterful; the layout, well done. There were a few editing errors but nothing that would distract the reader from the exciting tale. I would definitely recommend this book and will enjoy reading it again in the future.
