Review:

Sensation of the Seas written by Ashlyn Chase is a contemporary romance with a splash of magic. The story is filled with quirky and likable characters that grow on you as the story unfolds. Sensation of the Seas has a fast-moving plot with lots of steamy romance.

Victoria St. James has struck out on her own to find adventure and live out from under the thumb of her parents. Miklos Roman is a Romany and has drifted from place to place over his life, but he believes his one true love is out there and he’s determined to find her.

Vickie and Miklos light the pages on fire with their chemistry. Their culture differences add drama to the spicy journey that they both embark on together. These two young characters will have you believing in fate and happily-ever-after.

I received an ARC for an honest review.

Blurb/Summary:

All Woman: Officer Taleena Harris may have looked like one of the guys in her uniform, but underneath lurked a sensual woman. Jason Treadway, her target had no clue he was key to fulfilling all her fantasies. He might be her boss, but she held all the aces. It was far past time to play them.
Jason Treadway had no desire to be a one woman type of man. That was until the Armored Company’s annual theme party. A mystery woman on the mechanical bull commanded his attention. He’d do anything for a night of being skin-to-skin with her. The only question… Would one night be enough?

Flaws and All: Nadja Mederios knows what she wants after months of watching Donato keep order at Club Mist, and an intervention from her best friend Taleena. As a lounge singer, she portrays a sensual, sultry woman, but she’s not the high-maintenance girl people assume she is. In fact, a tomboy lies beneath her protective costume. When the real woman comes to light, she hopes Donato finds her just as sexy as the mask.
Donato Falcone isn’t looking for commitment, but when someone touches Nadja without permission, rational thought leaves him and rage steps in. After his temper cools, he sees a different side of Nadja. Her sleek sophistication may well be a front for the girl who could be his forever, if he can find a way to break down her barriers.

Against All Odds: Four months of casual dating isn’t enough. Not for Derek Tresvant. His Deja may think financial security and a successful career are essential to a good life, but he disagrees. The numerous excuses she uses to push him away only entice him to prove he’s in the forever type.
If there’s one constant in life Deja Crane knows nothing is ever one hundred percent certain. After working her ass off to own her business and succeed on her terms, she’ll be damned if one hot sinful man will take all away from her with a marriage license, a picket fence and two point five kids. She’s got a plan of her own that doesn’t include messing with a man.

Review:

Only Skin Deep is an anthology by Mahalia Levey filled with three wonderful stories.

All Woman is a love story of how a girl gets her man to notice her as a woman.  Taleena has been sitting back and hoping to be noticed, until she decides to take the bull by the horns.  She does what it takes to win the eye of officer Jason Treadway.  His heart will follow.

Taleena and Jason have some steamy love scenes that will have the reader looking for more and Ms. Levey delivers.  There is an excellent segue into the next story Flaws and All that doesn’t leave you feeling like you are reading separate stories.

I just loved Nadja and Danato’s story in Flaws and All.  It pulled at my heartstrings and left me with a wonderful feeling.  God knows that we aren’t short on women with self-esteem issues, but it’s the male that can reassure and build her up again that is in short supply.

Donato sees Nadja for who she is and supports her and her interests.  It doesn’t hurt that some of their interests coincide.  Donato’s thoughtfulness will help Nadja heal and the reader gets a glimpse.

Deja and Derek’s love story, Against All Odds, is out of this world with twists and turns that will keep you glued to the pages.  There are so many obstacles for these two to overcome that it is questionable to the very end whether they can make it work.  They each carry secrets from their past that may prevent them from sharing a future together.

Deja and Derek share a tumultuous journey together that was enjoyable to read.  The story ended, but it was left open to continue with other characters in the future.  This is one group of friends and family that I will want to revisit.

I really loved how all the main characters in each story play secondary roles in the other stories.  We get to see them again and get a little update on their lives.  The playfulness, goofing off, texting, and teasing between characters gave them each depth and brought them to life.

Only Skin Deep is a terrific compilation of contemporary stories that will run you through your gamut of emotions.  Don’t miss out.

Blurb/Summary:

Wayward cowboys with mechanical toys, an enterprising post-Civil War pleasure seeker, lovers conflicted in flight, and a lonely inventor whose salvation washes up on the shore of Penzance ... these stories of passion in the time of steam are guaranteed to set fire to your sense.

Silver Wings, an anthology of M/M and bi-male steampunk, features works by Cari Z., Mahalia Levey, Ross Baxter and JT Whitehall, edited by Phaze bestseller Leigh Ellwood.

Review:

Silver Wings is an anthology revolving around a homoerotic steampunk theme.

Nothing Ventured by Cari Z. is a hot, erotic story with plenty of action to keep you engaged. Sean and Nick are wonderful characters. The plot is interesting and the story contains some magical elements as well as steampunk.

Spoils of War by Ross Baxter is an erotic story with a dark undertone. As a reader, you want to smack Tom and yell at him that he’s being used, but on the other hand you hope he’s not. You’re kept on the edge waiting to see what happens. While you wait you’re treated to a hot male ménage. Intrigue and blackmail add spice to the story. The story is well written and will leave you wanting more, but there are some editing issues that are a bit distracting.

Surface Tension by JT Whitehall is a good love story with a happy ending. The bit of mystery revolving around Geoffrey gives the story just the right amount of drama to keep the pages turning. Sheldon is an interesting and curious character that is very enjoyable.

Steamy Surrender by Mahalia Levey is a story that starts out with an erotic twist that will keep you reading. This is a page turner with a lot going on in such a short story. The author does a nice job of keeping the story engaging. Mahalia Levey uses the steam power theme in her story very creatively. This story has a very hot, erotic, steamy ménage that will leave you wanting more of Cadence, Merrick, and Braeden.

Overall, I enjoyed this anthology and the creative takes on the theme the authors used. I found the inventions, innovations, and fantasy with a foothold in an altered earth history to be very entertaining. If you enjoy steampunk romance then try out Silver Wings.

Blurb/Summary:

Exhibitionism and Voyeurism. The thrill of watching … and being watched. Enjoy them both in this collection by Michelle Houston.

The camera catches the inner soul to a person, catching the hidden emotions we are too afraid to let others see. Daria is one of those people, and just for a brief moment, she lets Lynsay see her how she really is in "The Window of the Soul."

Tempted is the best way to describe Elaine's reaction to leather; especially when it was hugging the tight curves of a woman. She prowled the clubs, secretly thrilling in the view. What she hadn't expected was to run into one of her former students -- a former student with an
interesting ultimatum.

Stacie's lover Amy has arranged things so that she can indulge her exhibitionist streak in a safe environment -- from behind the safety of peepshow booth windows. She gets to be center stage, putting on a show with her lover, without the risk of getting caught. It's an exhibitionist's dream, being watched by every Peeping Tom, Dick and Harriett.

Review:

Private Eyes is a collection of three short stories that explore the boundaries of feminine desire, the limits of lesbian lust, and the taboos of voyeuristic pleasures. The reader’s window into each story is through the eyes of the voyeur, ensuring that we share in that delicious sense of frustrated anticipation, as well as the ultimate realisation of sexual bliss.

The voyeur who invites us into The Window of the Soul is Lynsay, a professional photographer who lives through the lens of her camera. Her latest client is a beautiful, yet plain looking woman named Daria, who has come looking for some boudoir photos. With each flash of the camera, and each item of clothing removed, another layer of Daria’s inhibitions falls to the floor. As the toys come out and the photo session turns from boudoir to pornographic, the sexual tension builds to nearly unbearable heights.

In Tempted it’s a bar-hopping lesbian professor named Elaine who provides us with our voyeuristic window. Having been admiring the bevy of leather-clad dancers from afar, Elaine is stunned (and a little embarrassed) to be confronted by one of her old students. Brittany saw her watching, and promises not to expose the professor’s secret – on the condition that she shares a dance. It’s a dance that quickly moves from reluctant to erotic, and ends with the two women masturbating one another amidst the crowd, as aroused by each other as they are by the potential audience.

Peeping Tom, Dick, and Harriett involves a number of voyeurs, but it’s Amy who provides us with our window into the scene. She and Stacie are lovers, but Stacie is still struggling with her sexual expression. In order to reveal her lover’s true exhibitionist nature, Amy has organized a lesbian peep show – with Stacie as the main attraction. Barely able to keep their hands off one another before the show begins, they descend into wild abandon the moment the lights go. There’s no acting or posturing here, just two women who find their passion reaching new heights with the knowledge that, just a few feet away, an unseen audience is masturbating to their display.

Although too short to offer much in the way of real character development or plot, Michelle defines each of the women beautifully, providing just enough background and context to create erotic and meaningful stories, rather than just individual scenes of sex. Crazy, wild, and undeniably hot, Private Eyes is definitely worth a read.

Blurb/Summary:

The Scarecrow and Ms. Moon {paranormal romance} by Barbara Raffin (Dame Jade): Never make a witch mad. Jackson Wolfe did and he’s now a scarecrow in her garden. Jessie Moon doesn’t like liars and, in a fit of anger, turned the man she loves into a scarecrow. Now, four months later, she’s exhausted every spell to restore him, been put on probation by her coven, and is still angry at Jackson for lying to her. On All Hallows Eve, the coven assembles at Jessie’s house to restore Jackson to his living, human form at the stroke of midnight. What Jessie doesn’t realize is that this is a test for her—a test that will determine whether or not she will be allowed to remain in the coven. Since impulsive anger is this novice witch’s problem, Jessie is given the twenty-four hours of Halloween in which to learn to control her anger and love Jackson enough to let him go or to lose her place in the coven. As if that wasn’t enough, if she fails, not only will she be cast out of the coven, but Jackson will be turned back into a scarecrow...forever. Cuddly {horror} by Dee Lloyd (Dame Aquamarine): Sam Farber heads for a neighborhood bar after a particularly grueling shift in the emergency room. This Halloween had brought out all the crazies. He’d spent hours dealing with the bloody aftermath of a gun battle between two teenaged gangs. All he wants is an hour or two of warmth and companionship. He gets more than he’s looking for. Paper Tiger (Kaleidoscope Series, Book 5) by Karen Wiesner (Dame Amethyst) {romantic suspense}: Kaleidoscope Office Building provides employment to nine hot, young singles—all about to make a love connection. Working 9 to 5 has never been so complicated…or so much fun! Billy LaPointe’s wife died only a couple years after they married, leaving him with a son to raise on his own. Nine years later, he’s found love again with Veronica Spencer and his teenage son Damian is just as smitten with her. But after years of hearing Roni hedge on his marriage proposals, Billy is desperate. Determined to make her his forever, he offers her an ultimatum that he soon regrets. What he doesn’t know is that Roni has a secret past she doesn’t want to look back and confront—a past that may have come back to haunt her. Can she risk losing Billy and Damian because of what could be a true threat…or merely a paper tiger? The Charmer (North of Nonesuch Series, Book 9) {romantic horror} by Jane Toombs (Dame Turquoise): Who is the charmer and who the charmed? A very difficult distinction to make. If Will Pasanen fails to solve the problem, more than his love for Lily Fowler is doomed... Mistress of the Shadow Hounds {paranormal romance} by Margaret L. Carter (Dame Onyx): A sinister artifact handed down in her family forces a young woman into conflict with creatures from an alien dimension that threaten not only her life but the safety of the entire world.

Review:

Whether you prefer a little more banter in your romance (The Scarecrow and Ms Moon), or something more ‘straightforward’, the eclectic mix of author voices makes this anthology a good read.

Some ‘traditional’ horror tales have been modernised and updated with a refreshing energy (The Charmer), while others warn the reader to Be Careful What They Wish For…. Lest they actually get it.

None of the tales were overly graphic in either the horror department or bedroom antics for my taste, and I enjoyed the balance that all the authors struck between these two aspects. This is more a read for those who like their romance with a Small Side-Order of Scare, rather than all out blood, guts and no-hope-of-ever-sleeping-again.

I wasn’t overly drawn to the cover art, and I did find the electronic layout a little odd at first. It’s probably more suited to paperback, but on the whole each story flowed easily, and they all fit well together without merging into each other. As with all books of this type, I preferred some stories to others, but the overall experience was none the worse for that.

Blurb/Summary:

Gunmetal Blue, by G. R. Bretz

Meet Blue—an ex-Confederate cavalry officer living off his wits and his guns in Reconstruction era Texas—and Sally—a young woman stuck in a loveless marriage to a man who only married her for her family name. When Sally's stage is attacked by robbers, Blue comes to her rescue. Together, they make their way across the Lone Star state. But when they reach a crossroads, the direction they choose will change the course of their lives forever.

Outlaw, by Rie McGaha

Colt has a bullet in his thigh and his face on a wanted poster, but when he rode into the mountains to lay low for a while, he never expected to see a lone woman swimming naked in the river. Hidden in the tree line, he watches her and as desire grows, he takes matters into his own hands, but even that doesn't assuage his need to touch her.

Cynthia hasn't seen her husband in several months since he left her alone to go into town for supplies, but the man she wakes up to find lying on top of her with his hand over her mouth isn't the man she married. He demands she feed him and suggests if she doesn't, he won't have a problem taking what he really wants whether she consents or not.

As Colt watches her make biscuits and gravy, he finds he isn't just enticed by her body, something about her appeals to him on a deeper level and as the two come to know one another, it's apparent the attraction isn't one-sided.

Tengo Una Pistola, by Bryl R. Tyne

After ten days in the saddle, Chuck just wants a hot meal and hotter bath water. He knows exactly where to find both too -- at home, with his lover, Mitch. But what Chuck finds instead is that Mitch has taken in Carmen, one of the town whores . . . and not only is she sharing Mitch's bed, she's using Chuck's tub. The situation irks Chuck to no end, but not as badly as the images of those wet and soapy feminine thighs that are stuck in his craw and driving him crazy. What the hell is going on? As far as Chuck's concerned, somebody had better start talking and talking soon!

Review:

This anthology starts with a bang that continues clear to the final page. The stories serve to remind us just why they called it the “wild” west.

Each piece did a great job of establishing both the time period, and the setting of each story, entertaining the reader, and placing them into a world of complete sexual enticement. Each story played well upon the others, proceeding to make the entire anthology into a complete work of pure enjoyment that keeps you entangled until the very end.

There were a few areas within some stories, which the characters acted in a manner that was completely uncharacteristic to events befalling them. It is for this reason I felt a few of the characters lost some believability.

Overall, I recommend this book to all that enjoy their westerns wild and wicked. It truly lives up to its name.
