Sapphire Phelan, A Familiar Tangle With Hell

Title: A Familiar Tangle With Hell
Author: Sapphire Phelan
Rating: Four Siren Stones
Genre: Paranormal Erotic Romance
Keywords: Witch, Demons, Lucifer, Demon Bunny
Page Count: 120
ISBN E-Book: 978-1-60659-610-4
Price: $4.99
Publisher: Phaze Books

Blurb/Summary:
Tina and Charun thought it was all over and that their life would be normal—well, as normal as it could be for an immortal Witch and her demon Familiar. Except there was another prophesy, one that laid claim that if Lucifer snatches Tina and mates with her before the last chime before midnight of the new year and gets her pregnant with his son, that the real Armageddon would begin, spelling the end of life as they knew it.
When Tina is stolen away, Charun, along with Jacokb the archangel, must race against time into the bowels of Hell to rescue her. But with demons, Lucifer, and a cute demon bunny with fangs out of a Monty Python nightmare, out to stop them and Heaven not lending a hand, will Tina
become the mother of the Antichrist and the start of a new Hell on Earth?Review:
Imaginative and distinct, A Familiar Tangle With Hell stands apart from other Angels vs. Demons Armageddon stories. Bound together through their DNA, the relationship between Tina and her demon, Charun, is much deeper than the standard partnership of Witches and Familiars. Their love for each other grows as the danger increases and the erotic encounters between the two sizzle with explosive magic. Charun’s divine beginnings and demonic status creates a complicated and intriguing character who effectively uses the benefits of his torn existence to not only protect his soul mate but the world as well. After averting Armageddon once and becoming a witch to do so, Tina has honed her skills and is just learning to embrace her new reality when she realizes it is she who is to be the catalyst for Lucifer to wage the ultimate (and possibly final) war between good and evil.
Lucifer, as written by Sapphire Phelan, does not disappoint in all of his sadistic, malevolent, but contrarily sensual pursuit of domination over the heavens and earth. “The Big L” instils fear as well as lust no matter what form he takes throughout the tale. A wide cast of supporting characters on each side of the Good vs. Evil battle create a web of sub plots that adds to, rather than distracts the reader from, the general excitement of the story. From an Archangel turn coat to the fluffy and seemingly harmless soul eating demon bunny, each creature is written with creative vision.
The Holy and Unholy clash at the climax of the story in an epic war, keeps the reader flipping pages furiously. Mortality and all its weaknesses are exploited during the battle, leading the reader on an emotional roller coaster thrill ride. Life will never again be the same for Tina, Charun, or even fluffy, and this book creates a wonderful platform for a continuation to their saga.
Editing oversights and some repetitive dialogue keeps this book from ranking higher during my evaluation, but this book is fantastic read and is a great addition to any paranormal lover’s library.

Blurb/Summary:
Fallon Maddox is reunited with her family the day they bury her father. She has no idea that coming home will be the beginning of an adventure she may not survive and even if she does, her life will never be the same.
Ian Cavanaugh is a homicide detective who is wrapped up in a case that may not be as simple as it first appears. The deceased is the father of a group of foster children who had made quite a reputation for themselves when he was growing up. He knew it was in his best interest to get the case solved ... and fast.
His priorities begin to waver as he is reunited with the only daughter in the family. Her never-wavering calm makes him want to shatter it and expose the passion he knows lies beneath it. No matter how hot blooded their unions are, it was becoming clear that he may have to choose between love and his brotherhood in blue, for their families seemed to always be at increasing odds.
Will he have time to make the decision or will it be made for him?
Review:
The Detective’s Lover is an erotic, multicultural romance. It's filled with plenty of action, conflict, and suspense. The suspense is dark and edgy, but makes for a great read.
I enjoyed Fallon and Ian's story. The emotions of the characters were fleshed out well, but the characterization could have been done a little more. There were a few times where I got lost and confused, and had to go back to make sure I didn't miss something.
Overall, I found this to be a good romantic suspense novel. Interracial romances are always interesting to read about because it blends two different worlds together and leaves the characters to adapt to different situations.
If you enjoy suspense, romance, plenty of love scenes to make your toes curl, then don't miss The Detective’s Lover.

Blurb/Summary:
Wayward cowboys with mechanical toys, an enterprising post-Civil War pleasure seeker, lovers conflicted in flight, and a lonely inventor whose salvation washes up on the shore of Penzance ... these stories of passion in the time of steam are guaranteed to set fire to your sense.
Silver Wings, an anthology of M/M and bi-male steampunk, features works by Cari Z., Mahalia Levey, Ross Baxter and JT Whitehall, edited by Phaze bestseller Leigh Ellwood.
Review:
Silver Wings is an anthology revolving around a homoerotic steampunk theme.
Nothing Ventured by Cari Z. is a hot, erotic story with plenty of action to keep you engaged. Sean and Nick are wonderful characters. The plot is interesting and the story contains some magical elements as well as steampunk.
Spoils of War by Ross Baxter is an erotic story with a dark undertone. As a reader, you want to smack Tom and yell at him that he’s being used, but on the other hand you hope he’s not. You’re kept on the edge waiting to see what happens. While you wait you’re treated to a hot male mĂ©nage. Intrigue and blackmail add spice to the story. The story is well written and will leave you wanting more, but there are some editing issues that are a bit distracting.
Surface Tension by JT Whitehall is a good love story with a happy ending. The bit of mystery revolving around Geoffrey gives the story just the right amount of drama to keep the pages turning. Sheldon is an interesting and curious character that is very enjoyable.
Steamy Surrender by Mahalia Levey is a story that starts out with an erotic twist that will keep you reading. This is a page turner with a lot going on in such a short story. The author does a nice job of keeping the story engaging. Mahalia Levey uses the steam power theme in her story very creatively. This story has a very hot, erotic, steamy ménage that will leave you wanting more of Cadence, Merrick, and Braeden.
Overall, I enjoyed this anthology and the creative takes on the theme the authors used. I found the inventions, innovations, and fantasy with a foothold in an altered earth history to be very entertaining. If you enjoy steampunk romance then try out Silver Wings.

Sahtahn has no intention of fighting to approach the prize match, but when Sabine is attacked on her way to the riser, he changes his mind. She's not the cold woman he'd believed her. She's a frightened young woman in need of a gentle hand. If she accepts his advances, he will have the greatest prize imaginable.
Review:
We enter the story as Sabine is getting ready to embark on Sakk, an alien planet, to be claimed by a mate. We get to experience some of her apprehension and fear.
Sabine’s apprehension continues on until General Sahtahn puts her at ease. Her claiming is erotic, sensual, and descriptive. Throughout the claiming we get more of an understanding of the laws and culture on Sakk. However, it is a short story revolving around a claiming, so there is not an in-depth explanation regarding the planet and culture. The author just highlights what we need to know for this story.
As more about the culture comes out so does the personalities of both Sabine and Sahtahn. It’s hard not to fall for this couple and hope the best for them. Between Sabine’s loving nature and inexperience and Sahtahn’s kind, caring nature and experience; the two just about light the pages on fire.
For paranormal erotic romance and science fiction fans, Brenna Lyons’ short story is a must read. If you have read Sons of Heaven: Beldon and you need another fix of this fantasy world then you will enjoy Daughters of Man: Prize Match.

Blurb/Summary:
The camera catches the inner soul to a person, catching the hidden emotions we are too afraid to let others see. Daria is one of those people, and just for a brief moment, she lets Lynsay see her how she really is in "The Window of the Soul."
Tempted is the best way to describe Elaine's reaction to leather; especially when it was hugging the tight curves of a woman. She prowled the clubs, secretly thrilling in the view. What she hadn't expected was to run into one of her former students -- a former student with an
interesting ultimatum.
Stacie's lover Amy has arranged things so that she can indulge her exhibitionist streak in a safe environment -- from behind the safety of peepshow booth windows. She gets to be center stage, putting on a show with her lover, without the risk of getting caught. It's an exhibitionist's dream, being watched by every Peeping Tom, Dick and Harriett.
Review:
Private Eyes is a collection of three short stories that explore the boundaries of feminine desire, the limits of lesbian lust, and the taboos of voyeuristic pleasures. The reader’s window into each story is through the eyes of the voyeur, ensuring that we share in that delicious sense of frustrated anticipation, as well as the ultimate realisation of sexual bliss.
The voyeur who invites us into The Window of the Soul is Lynsay, a professional photographer who lives through the lens of her camera. Her latest client is a beautiful, yet plain looking woman named Daria, who has come looking for some boudoir photos. With each flash of the camera, and each item of clothing removed, another layer of Daria’s inhibitions falls to the floor. As the toys come out and the photo session turns from boudoir to pornographic, the sexual tension builds to nearly unbearable heights.
In Tempted it’s a bar-hopping lesbian professor named Elaine who provides us with our voyeuristic window. Having been admiring the bevy of leather-clad dancers from afar, Elaine is stunned (and a little embarrassed) to be confronted by one of her old students. Brittany saw her watching, and promises not to expose the professor’s secret – on the condition that she shares a dance. It’s a dance that quickly moves from reluctant to erotic, and ends with the two women masturbating one another amidst the crowd, as aroused by each other as they are by the potential audience.
Peeping Tom, Dick, and Harriett involves a number of voyeurs, but it’s Amy who provides us with our window into the scene. She and Stacie are lovers, but Stacie is still struggling with her sexual expression. In order to reveal her lover’s true exhibitionist nature, Amy has organized a lesbian peep show – with Stacie as the main attraction. Barely able to keep their hands off one another before the show begins, they descend into wild abandon the moment the lights go. There’s no acting or posturing here, just two women who find their passion reaching new heights with the knowledge that, just a few feet away, an unseen audience is masturbating to their display.
Although too short to offer much in the way of real character development or plot, Michelle defines each of the women beautifully, providing just enough background and context to create erotic and meaningful stories, rather than just individual scenes of sex. Crazy, wild, and undeniably hot, Private Eyes is definitely worth a read.

Reviewer: Rhonda Callum-King
Blurb/Summary:
Get ready for another collection of stories on relationships from master storyteller, Piers Anthony.
From one of the best known names in fiction comes this fourth unique collection of stories about relationships--some intense, some sexual, some mild, some shockers.
This collection is intended for mature, thoughtful readers who care more about character and idea than adventure. A must for Anthony fans.
Review:
Relationships 4 by Piers Anthony is a must read for anyone tired of the same perfect boy meets beautiful girl and they live happily ever after style romance tale. In Relationships 4, Piers explores the grittier side of sexual relations with couples who are not even close to perfect. Many of the tales are rather short and can be read easily in a sitting. While this collection is not for those looking for fairy tale romance, if what you’ve been missing is something grittier and perhaps truer to life, Piers’ stories may be just what you’ve been looking for.
Here you will find tales of an unattractive larger sized female prisoner and her unusually endowed prison guard. A young, untried male and four forty- something female friends on a week’s vacation tell their story. An unlikely pair with years between them, who share an unusual phobia, find ways to re-enter the world. Writers block is attacked from a new perspective and conception prevented in a novel manner. The stories are well written and sometimes thought provoking. Many of the characters allow the reader a glimpse inside of their heads.
This trip to the other side, as it were, is worth taking. While some of the tales are almost shocking, they throw a light into otherwise darkened corridors. Piers Anthony’s Relationships 4 is a wonderful read for anyone looking for something a bit “bad side of town.” If Cinderella is what is on your mind, this is the wrong place to be. However, if what you want is a bit nastier, something truly original, this might just be your perfect read.

When Jannie Reynolds goes down the line into the deeper caverns in search of more artifacts depicting the winged god-man, she doesn't know a team member with a thirst for fame intends to cut her ropes. She doesn't know her life will be saved by alien technology or that she will stumble upon a five-thousand-year old winged alien in a stasis tube who doesn’t know his colony has been destroyed. And she certainly doesn’t know she's an alien crossbreed, as well.
Review:
Sons of Heaven: Beldon was an awesome erotic science fiction story. It’s a fast paced short novel that will leave you breathless. If the beautiful cover doesn’t draw you in the first page will.
I loved the science fiction aspect and how Brenna Lyons tied in real world events to make the story come to life. Brenna Lyons made the characters and story so realistic it almost feels plausible that this could really happen!
Beldon is a wonderful hero with an alpha male attitude that is balanced with incredible protective instincts. Jannie is a smart woman that has been dealt a devious blow by a co-worker. When the two meet sparks fly. The chemistry and love scenes are hot and erotic.
Their love leads back to Beldon’s planet where not all males are as lucky as he. Jannie’s bravery comes through and lends hope to Beldon’s planet in a great plot twist.
This was a wonderful story that held me captivated from beginning to end. It’s always a great sign when the reader doesn’t want to leave the world they have been reading about and just wants more of the characters. I was unable to put this book down until I was finished, and I will still be thinking about it for days to come.
I will be seeking other creations from Brenna Lyons.

Blurb/Summary:
Rainyn Clery is a gorgeous, kind-natured dancer at Club Nuit; a strip club/bordello where hot incubus vampires fulfill the deepest, darkest fantasies of everyday women. Despite his great passion for his work, Rainyn finds himself falling in love with Blythe, record company executive and Nuit regular.
Blythe Browning is engaged to marry Richard Billings, a city commissioner in her hometown of Clearview, Florida. Yet Richard's cruel, smug attitude drives her back to Club Nuit, a haven where she finds comfort in the arms of the sensual, exotic Rainyn.
Soon Blythe can't deny her love for Rainyn; a love he returns in the form of beautiful gifts and mind-blowing sex. Yet the man of her dreams harbors a secret that could threaten their love. It seems this gentleman of the evening is also a lord of the night.
Review:
Angel on Fire was a great story. The names of the heroine and hero originally drew me to the story. Being drawn into Blythe and Rainyn’s story really took me on a roller coaster ride. Who can’t sympathize with Blythe and her predicament with an asshole of a fiancĂ©, who felt trapped and had no other option but to marry to satisfy her family’s standards.
I hoped she’d fight for her own choice and learn that the only standards that mattered were her own. I felt sorry for her fiancĂ©es mother in law instead of being angry at her close minded crab apple attitude.
Rainyn though showed love by acceptance when Blythe refused to see what he had to offer her that she’d be missing with her intended. From the bordello to learning about Rainyn’s past, his family and falling in love with the secondary characters of the bordello, I was a tad exhausted, but not before the story culminated into a happy ending I’d hoped for.

make it work the second time around?
Marine pilot Captain Garrick "Paladin" Stark is back in the United States
after being stationed in Japan. He loves his career but something is
missing. His woman. And he wants her back.
Delaney Byrd works for the USO. One night at a club she finds herself face
to face with a man she knew she'd never forget, a man who had started off
as a one night stand yet lasted a year.
Garrick vows after finding Delaney this time will be different. He wants
forever. Still, there're numerous things they need to overcome. When the
chance arrives for him to tell her how he feels, will she believe him? Can
she look past what she is scared of becoming and accept his love?
Review:
There is nothing sexier than a military man in my book. Add in a Marine and pilot and I’m already hooked. Born To Fly: You Save Me took me on the journey of two people embroiled in sinful pleasures of the flesh. When Garrick went on deployment and Delany was left alone, I felt for her. She made the decision to return home and work instead of waiting lonely for him to return. With no prospect of having more of a relationship, what more reason did she have to stay?
My heart did a double take, pitter-patter when Garrick returned to the States and confronted Delany calling her on the fact that she hadn’t moved on from him. The sexual tension spiked and exploded, but it was his determination to woo and give her the relationship she deserved that made me grin from ear to ear. I really wanted them to have a great shot, even if they were doing the whole relationship journey backwards.
This was one great read!

Blurb/Summary:
Love doesn't make the flowers smell sweeter, Love wakes you up to the world around you. Love won't make you flawless, but Love will take away the fear that holds you back. Love isn't the destination, Love is journey you take with the one person who cares about you most. Twenty years after promising to love each other "Eternally and Evermore", teenage sweethearts, Amy and Will, are reunited to discover their love burns as strongly as it ever did. But while Will is a successful lawyer, Amy has walked a tougher path. What secrets does she harbor? What ghosts litter her past? And what horrors will they have to endure before they can finally be together "Eternally and Evermore.”
Review:
First, you as a reader have to be comfortable with all the British euphemisms and slang. Second, you have to be able to look past the editing which is distracting.
After a slow start, to set the book up, the twists and turns in the plot keep the pages turning. Amy, the heroine, goes from a cute teenager to a very complex adult. William, the hero, takes turns in his life that weren’t all for the best. When they meet up again the sparks fly between them. The characters are likable and the love scenes are sweet.
This story is one of love, love lost, and then love found again. The circumstances surrounding the story line push the plot forward. Eternally and Evermore is a good story. However, I think too much was left unfinished at the end between Amy and William. The other plot items that were important throughout the story were wrapped up very quickly.
This is a great story for anyone who likes to think back on characters and create their own ending in their head.

The Heliotrope is a club run by two vampires, in a world that knows about their existence. The Partners: Rick, a young human, visits the Heliotrope because he is curious about the accepted arrangement between vampires and humans where vampires receive blood in exchange for providing humans with sex. The Guardian: David is a Guardian, a vampire who has taken on the duty of protecting the humans from the rogue vampires who hunt for blood rather than obtaining it in amicable exchange. David is on his way to the Heliotrope when he discovers a young human, Rick, being attacked and saves him. David is drawn to the young man.
Review:
Binary Stars 5: The Heliotrope - The Partners (Book One)
There is a huge difference between making love—and sex
Richard seeks out the Heliotrope, a vampire-owned bar that he’d heard about through friends. It is owned by Bohdri and Antoninus, who have succeeded in making it one of the most popular of its kind.
It isn’t long before Antoninus claims Richard for himself, with intentions of giving the human the night of a lifetime. Unbeknownst to Richard, Bohdri has his eyes set on them too—inviting himself into the mix—but not to participate, only to watch.
Except deep down, Bohdri is in love with his maker, Antoninus, and has been for many-a-year. As the tale continues, the back-story comes into play; there had been a time when Bohdri was human and fallen in love with a vampire, who couldn’t bear to reciprocate the sentiment. Not when Antoninus’ life could stretch on and on by comparison.
But there is a way to fix that; isn’t there? But would the vampire even want to? In a slight of hand, Antoninus turns his human, and Bohdri lost the man he loved in the same moment.
Binary Stars 5: The Heliotrope - The Partners (Book One), by Stevie Woods is a sizzling erotic M/M romance that demands your full attention from page one.
The emotion shown between Antoninus and Bohdri makes you wonder what will happen between them—making you feel for their situation and miscommunication. Then enters Richard; the benighted human, who is only looking to satisfy both curiosity and lust. He gets caught up in the “cross-fire” he only begins to suspect.
I adored these believable and multifaceted characters, who plough through the story to their goals in impassioned scenes that will get your blood pumping, and begging for more…gladly, there is, in the second installment within this anthology…
Binary Stars 5: The Heliotrope - The Guardian (Book Two)
Sometimes, decisions must be made, no matter the cost
David is a Guardian, an entity who stands between the rogue vampires and the safety of humankind. He knows his duties, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t indulge in the knowing humans who seek out the Heliotrope and beyond.
Including Rick—Richard—one in the same who had appeared in book one of this series, and introduced to the pleasures a vampire can offer, by the owner of the well-known establishment, Antoninus.
The only problem; as the off-duty Guardian closes in on the Heliotrope, he hears an attack that can only be instigated by one of his own, and charges in to find a vampire taking his fill of an unwilling victim.
That victim? Is Rick.
In a split-second, risky decision, David saves Richard’s life—but what will the cost be to both of them?
Binary Stars 5: The Heliotrope - The Guardian (Book Two), much like the first installment, pulled me in from the get go. David and Richard’s meeting was a moment of desperation, but quickly sparked into more than just danger—an instant attraction neither could nor wanted to ignore.
Hot love scenes were coupled with fluid prose and editing, making this a great overall read. I loved this Anthology, with both installments from Stevie Wood, and will be looking for more in The Heliotrope series.
